I think that there are several different reasons for this state. One, we have made Christainity a head knowledge religion of doctrine rather than knowing Christ and being conformed to His image. We want our own way; and not Christ's. We refuse to allow Him to use circumstances to mold us. We don't want to suffer. We want the good life. Read the authors of 150-200 years ago. Christianity was much different then. I think humanism has crept in as well. The American Heritage Children's Dictionary says meek is putting up with mistreatment patiently without getting angry; patient & humble. Not resisting, struggling or asserting oneself. Jesus said Come to me and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly. In Timothy, Paul says as good soldier of Jesus Christ is not concerned with the affairs of this life; but how we can please our master. How do we please Him? Read the Sermon on the Mount, the Gospels, the Epistles. Romans 12 is a good summation of the Christian life. We should be about our Master's business while we go about the life He has chosen for us learning of Him how to live, and move and have our being. How to respond to folks that come across our path. Let us learn of Him and go forth. |
