Mike from NY, for me it's either laugh or cry. At least I can laugh until it all unravels! . And while I meant it to be funny, really, when one holds any institution of such ungodly power as this one in such esteem, something really is wrong; they hold ungodliness and profess the same. I don't understand why Christians are ok with this administration... |

Hey Christopher! Loooonnnggg before there were contraceptives, women still weren't the Duggers. Racheal, Leah, Sarah, Hannah, Mary the mother of Jesus, Ruth, Mrs. Noah - only a few kids. Come to think of it, apart from Eve, I can't think of anyone save Mrs. Job who had a passel of kids herself... I'm sure there's someone, but I can't think of them at the moment. I do know those women all prayed diligently for children. Some say it was to secure their standing in society, but according to Hannah's story, it was about the blessing of children; they are after all, a blessing, not a burden or curse. It is, as open said, God who is in control of this, not man. We fiddle and muddle stuff up - we use fertility treatments or contraceptives and play a role but I dare say we've overstepped our bounds and it isn't a role we are supposed to be in.About the "what's in an egg": I would have the opinion that "Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own", (1 Corinth 6:19). Otherwise you run into the fertility treatments where you can sell an egg - if it's just an egg, not fertilized, then so what? Problem is, it is "the seed" and when you start looking up "the seed" in the Bible... Well, it's a big pie |

Ok, now wait a minute here folks! Lisa, are you saying the OT is useless? There was no "law" sited in these OT texts - that's another discussion anyway. The OT is just as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago! Back to the topic, there are many, many things the Bible doesn't address - brushing our teeth, sports activities, airplanes, computers - but it fails in absolutely NO AREA to guide us in real terms of how we are to conduct ourselves. So while the Bible may not say, "thou shalt not use contraceptives" the question is much bigger - who should control reproduction. To whittle down a subject to a "finer point" is the best way to wriggle out of truth. Kids do it all the time, "Mom said we couldn't have a cookie; but she didn't say we couldn't have two!" I would challenge us to not pick at the crumbs then but look at the whole pie - this isn't about birth control - it is about reproduction as a whole. As a Christian, do we have the right to impose on God our own knowledge and understanding when it comes to childbearing? I believe the Bible is as clear as day on this and only through discarding bits and pieces of the Bible, here and there, can one come to the conclusion that God is silent on this topic. He is most certainly not. His regard for children, from |

Lisa, I hope most of your conclusions result less from Christian friends and more from Christ's word. My husband and I grabbed a concordance, looked up children, childbearing, and womb. It didn't take long to get the drift of the message. Afterwards, we looked up fruitful. The blessings and curses are clear and distinctive. Had I asked my friends, however, I would have received kindly but unscriptural advice - more "well, I think" or "what's worked for me" or "I just think a lot of this is cultural". The Bible transcends cultural differences and brings us all into one body, albeit, a diverse one. Yet, the Word of God is interested in God's will only. Our joy is in allowing Him to align us to His will where we might find peace and true happiness. I'll be praying for God to lead you as He will! |

"Don't you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body." (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20)"and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." (Galatians 2:20) "For Adam was created first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed. But she will be saved through childbearing, if she continues in faith, love, and holiness, with good judgment." (1 Timothy 2:13-15) "Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship." (Romans 12:1) "Then Jesus told them, 'Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.' And they were amazed at Him." (Mark 12:17) So, to whom does your body, including any reproductive rights belong to, speaking as a Christian? |
