"Multifaceted grace: God is slow to anger (Exod. 34:6). And when he chastises his children it is always less than they deserve! …God's grace is revealed in several ways in this section. 1. God has redeemed Israel…God has delivered them by the payment of a price. Israel, God's servant, had been purchased. God has paid the ransom price. 2. God's children belong to him…. 'You are mine' (43:1). This is the language both of affection and possession. God loves his adopted children extensively and jealously… 3. The trials will not overcome you…. We are reminded here, too, of the climax of Romans 8… 'For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord'… 4. God calls his children by name. We are not as conscious as we should be that as Christians we are carrying about the very name of our Saviour." – Dr. Derek W.H. Thomas: (Chancellor's Professor of Systematic and Pastoral Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary. He is a Ligonier Ministries teaching fellow and author of many books.)
