It is too bad that the writers of the Manhattan Declaration had such short vision with their weak ecumenical theology. I believe they could have made their appeal using Christian language if written properly – and I agree with most who state the document as it stands does not honor the gospel of Christ. Now they have a measly 300K+ signatures for our politicians who only care about the majority vote and tax dollars anyway – what is right or wrong does not register any more. Is it too late for the declaration writers to do a re-write or will they just admit defeat and call it quits? It is too bad. I wanted to see this thing go places. If anyone is interested, I am willing to throw in my two cents at another effort – I feel it is a worthy endeavor and that it can be pleasing to God. |

Please understand that I have attended churches (and know of folks that have attended churches) where doing such things as driving a four wheeler resulted in excommunication; eating potato chips was interpreted as breaking the 6th commandment; dancing, attending movies, playing cards, or not spanking your children for certain offenses was reason for the Pastor to perform an immediate unscheduled oversight visit; and yes, participating in Halloween activities was frowned upon as taking up the devil's banner. Perhaps God has spared you from these type of experiences, but these are things that are still happening today in so-called Christian circles. Please understand that when I see legalism, I react as Paul did in writing Galations. Although Christians will observe the following, we are saved by grace through faith - not by the keeping of a set of church rules or ordinances, holding to a set of doctrines, beliefs, or practices - these are the tail with Christ only being the head. Legalism and "blue laws" (as you refer) are in the church today. Now having said that, I would also warn that the other extreme of antinomianism has its own dangers lurking about as well. |

Great Sermon! I very much appreciated this 9-minute rebuttal on global warming.
I would like to see more speaking out against this while these freedoms still exist.
Regardless of the 19,000+ notable scientists that have signed their names to the fact that global warming is not a concern, politicians continue to push this new frenzie of carbon emissions control as that which will save the world. They have forgotten that we already have a Savior, Jesus Christ.
I fear that the new religion of global warming will sweep our planet causing not only excessive and useless expenditures, but we may see yet a bigger agenda behind it all. For example, I understand that there are those that propose the elimination of uneccesary humans to reduce the amount of CO2 production. |
