The tower of Babel represents the first sophisticated, organized counterfeit of religion. Indeed, the focus of Babel was the exaltation of man -- the religion of the deified self. Now, as God scattered the people of Babel across the face of the earth, so the seeds of this false religion spread. Thus as you study ancient religion in literature, you find the characteristics and elements of the false-religion of Babel springing up.
The religion that will be prominent at the end of this age is the religion of Babel.
Revelation 17:5, “And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”
The false-church that exists on the last day will be akin to the worship and religion that occurred at Babel. In fact, Scripture identifies really only two religions: the false-religion of Babel – which is known throughout the Bible and the world by the name of “Mystery Religion” – and the genuine religion of Christ.
