Great Sermon! I've listened to several of Pastor Thurston's sermons and every one has been a great encouragement to me. This one, as well as his sermon on prayer, is one I will keep in my queue to listen to repeatedly. |

'Righteousness' IS transferable!! Here are my notes from hearing this sermon -- it was exegeting Phil 3:9 and the humbling understanding that all are "righteousness" is filthy rags in our Lord's sight, BUT the righteousness of Christ is given to His elect, as we wear the robes if His righteousness, by His blood.
And the fact that His righteousness is transferred to slime such as we is because, and ONLY because of Christ!
Since we have entrusted our soul salvation to the Lord is He not big enough to guard our temporal possessions? Our jobs, finances, health, etc.??
2TIM 1:12 "I know Whom I have believed"
WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES CHRIST'S RIGHTEOUSNESS MEAN ON MONDAY MORNING? What difference does it make on Tues. night when you find out your son was in a severely debilitating car crash? What difference does it make to you on Fri. afternoon when you are handed a pink slip at work after 20 years of service to that company???
The answer is "it makes EVERY difference"! That Christ's righteousness -- the greatest blessing -- is yours by grace, then so also must be the lesser blessings of the Lord (i.e. care, love, provisions, protection, nuture, and giudance).
Rom 8:31 "what shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?"

How to seek the Lord when in pain! This sermon focused on Phil 3:10c "[to knwo] the fellowship of His sufferings". I always equated that verse with us somehow ruminating over the crucifixion, but this sermon set the record straight -- it is for us to suffer with everyday difficulties we face as sinner's on this sin cursed earth, and to remember the world hates Christ, so it will without a doubt hate us.
We are not to just endure trials, but as good servants we are to EMBRACE trails, not that we are to invite adversity into our life, or seek it out. But if when the Lord consents to us being sifted as wheat, or if the Lord Himself ordains the suffering, either way we are to embrace, endure, and be confident that He is doing it all for His glory, and to perfect us.
The other point that Pastor Thurston brought out here was the Daniel 3:24-25 portion. Did Abednego, Meshach, and Shadrach even know that Christ was there in the midst of the fire with them? The scriptures seem to imply that they did not visibly see Him - just as in all our trials He is right there with us!!!
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
