How many times have you been in the moment where you were caught with your hand in the cookie jar, with blue lights flashing, or with a bill that was overdue? Was your first reaction to deny the truth and begin to make excuses? We have all played this game with one another. We have all tried to justify our actions in front of others. We have been some of the best lawyers who defend our cases and judges who rule on our cases. In essence, we all have manipulated situations to make us look like we are in the right and to safe face. However, with God, there is no fooling Him. He is the Judge of all the Earth (Gen. 18:25). He can call to His defense 1) creation 2) conscience 3) the word of God 4) Christ Jesus Himself. Creation, conscience, the word of God and Jesus Christ all testify that God is righteous and true. Therefore, how can man make things right with God? Proverbs 17:15 says, “He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.” For a wicked person to be justified would be wrong. For an innocent man to be condemned would also be wrong. You have often heard two wrongs do not make it right, yet God in His infinite wisdom chose to send His innocent Son to die in the place of sinners. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” Man could never make it right with God through his efforts, but God through the glorious and sacrificial death of His Son, Jesus Christ, can justify sinners on the basis of faith in the Redeemer’s blood. |
