In the previous sermon I opened up the words of the prophet Isaiah as he revealed what was to come in Judah's future, which would be the unraveling of the Jewish world. The judgment of God was certain, because both Israel and Judah failed to hear and heed the word of God that was sent to them. Unfortunately, the world is in the same condition today, and the judgment of God is just as certain. Thus Isaiah's words are relevant for any society. However, in the sermon today we will unpack the words of Isaiah in which he reveals that there is still tremendous hope for the world in general and for the people of God in particular. But since judgment is certain, the ultimate hope will only emerge out of chaos. And, therein, we are introduced to the “branch,” for it is through the branch alone that hope is possible. In this sermon I will disclose His identity; I will divulge His qualities; and I will reveal both His work of redemption and His work of creation. This is the theme that Isaiah presents to us in this portion of his prophecy. I will conclude with a question regarding how you view history and why that is important. May God bless His word!
