Today I will continue our expository study of the prophecy of Isaiah. Following the two previous sermons, and before we actually get to the text of Isaiah, I want you to begin to think about the prophet and his unique role in the redemption of God. Therefore, in the sermon today I will develop the statement by Moses about God raising up another prophet that would come after him, and who would be like him. Since Jesus is the ultimate prophet of God, we must understand Him in that capacity by His relationship to all of the prophets, beginning especially with Moses. So I will set before the biblical facts about Moses as the prophet of God, and then do the same thing with Jesus as THE Prophet of God. But what is the relationship between them? And how are we to understand the whole nature of the prophetic ministry of the prophets in relation to each of these two people? And then most importantly, how are we to understand the person of Jesus Christ as THE Prophet of God? These are the kinds of issues that will be addressed in this sermon as we prepare for our exposition of Isaiah. My prayer is that God will be pleased to bless His holy word for the profit of His people as we begin this series!
