Last week I had the privilege of speaking at a memorial service of a friend who had gone home to be with the Lord. I selected the final words of the Apostle Paul in fourth chapter of the book of Thessalonians as my text: "Wherefore comfort one another with these words." (I Thes. 4:18)
In the closing content of this chapter the Apostle is instructing Christians about how to glorify God in every area of their life, including when they are called upon to grieve the loss of a loved one who has died in the Lord.
Grieving to the Glory of God would be accurate statement we could use to capsulate what that Apostle says in this section.
Since the temporary separation from our loved ones who have died in the Lord is so painful, the Apostle focuses on the subject of Comfort - a specifically Christian kind of comfort.
A comfort that is inseparably tied to our ability to concentrate on what the Lord has revealed to us in His Word, about Salvation and the State of those who have died in the Lord.
