As is common in Proverbs, this verse makes its point by using comparison and contrast. But in this case, the comparison is actually quite similar. In both scenarios, the individual is under great strain. Each is experiencing infirmity. The contrast, however, is great. The first individual is sustained while the second wilts under the infirmity. The difference is in the spirit of the individual. How is the spirit strengthened to sustain under great adversity? Christ says, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Paul experienced this great rest as he marveled, “I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” Are you bearing a load today that is unbearable? Jesus helps the weak! Carry your burden to Christ in prayer. He intercedes for you. Find someone who has a close walk with Christ and ask them to carry you to God in prayer. Open your Bible and find the God who is alive and powerful and wise. He sustains the spirits of those who seek Him.
