“He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.” Proverbs 18:13
This verse needs little explanation. Yet, it needs much consideration. I don’t know of any better or more practical wisdom to apprehend. This verse protects from:
Wrong assumptions
Character assassination
Rash conclusions
Petty arguments
Bad advice
False witness, even if unintentional
Really, God is calling us in this verse to slow down. And in reality, the previous verse is closely aligned with this thought. Before destruction is pride, and before honor is humility. The proud assume they understand the situation before they really understand. The humble wait, seeking God’s help to guide our responses.
