there is no shortage of right wing libertarian moralist freaks on sermonaudio advocating their own form of a social gospel and aspiring to some sort of new jerusalem in the USA completely divorced from biblical reality.

Unbiblical. Evildoers are people. They need to fear the government. The government is God's minister and does not bear the sword in vain.
Law and order and strong government is a blessing. When people do not fear the government you have lawlessness, bloody treason and rebellion. If you want weak government to give you liberty move to Somalia!
