We come now to the third of the seven signs that the apostle John recorded in his gospel account of the life and ministry of Jesus. This one occurred during one of the major feasts of Israel, at the pool of Bethesda in the city of Jerusalem. This one was also a healing miracle. Now, in the sermon today I will highlight the setting of the miracle, the performing of the miracle itself, and then the reaction to it. This was extremely significant in the life and ministry of Jesus, because it was at this point that the Jewish leadership really developed their “legal” charges against Jesus. In other words, from this point forward Jesus was really “on trial,” and everything He said and did added to their evidence against Him. However, as I shall demonstrate in the conclusion to the sermon, it was at this time that Jesus actually placed the nation on trial, for He declared His charges against them as well. This led eventually to Jesus' scathing indictments against them. Once again it is my prayer that God will bless His word preached as we continue our study of these fascinating miracles of Jesus.
