As Moses was prepared for leading the people out of Egypt by a special manifestation of the presence of God, so too is Joshua.
God's plan for conquering the city of Jericho will require them to trust and obey as it is not going to be without direct divine intervention.
Without question or hesitation, Joshua leads the people - who respond by faith, in carrying out the details of God's instructions. It will be then that, by faith, they are able to conquer the inhabitants and it is by faith that Rahab and her household are rescued from the total destruction imposed on the city.
God wants us to obey and that means doing what He says. Even today we are not to come up with alternative plans to those He has given. We must simply choose to respond, as Israel must, with simple obedience if we are going to experience success and the well-being God gives in our living in a relationship with God. We will see that when Israel chooses to disobey -they forfeit victory and experience the pain and loss of defeat.
