“The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.” Proverbs 11:23

Can this statement be said of you? “My desires are only good.” Most likely, in all candidness, no one can affirm this to be so. There are two important terms that describe the process of salvation. Justification is the term that describes our legal standing before God. In Christ, we are declared righteous before God. Intrinsically, we are clothed with the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ, fully righteous in the sight of God. Sanctification is another important term. It describes both the initial setting apart by the Holy Spirit to righteousness and the “real time” process of being made more righteous. In other words, sanctification is the transformation of becoming on the outside what we are on the inside. So, in a very real way, the deep longing of every child of God is only good. When our pride is dampened and humility reigns, we want to please God with all of our beings. But often, our pride rears its ugly head and our desires turn from God to self. In those moments, we cannot say that our desires are only for good. So, use this verse as a constant prayer. “Lord, make me desire only good. Turn me from myself to only see and desire You. Make me as holy on the outside as I am within.”
