This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
I uploaded a final video before the conference. My prayer is for God's fire. Plain and simple. A brother and I were praying this morning and we came across this passage:
"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." 3 John 1:2.
This seems like such an unusual statement made by the Apostle John. He wishes "above all things" that Gaius might "prosper and be in health?" You can imagine the kind of abuses that language like this would suffer with prosperity health-and-wealth preachers. It certainly cannot mean that the Apostle John wishes above all things that God might prosper Gaius with great financial wealth because that would be in contravention with the rest of Scripture. But there is a prosperity that we should be praying for. It's the prosperity of 2 Chronicles 26:5, "As long as [Uzziah] sought the Lord, God made him to prosper." Or the prosperity of the Psalm 1 blessed man, "whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." What this is referring to is SUCCESS, or more precisely, Gospel success. We are praying that even as our soul is prospering and enjoying God, so should the work of our hands be prospering and enjoying success. In the words of Moses in Psalm 90, "establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it."
Let us reclaim that word "PROSPERITY" and ask God to cause every attempt to DO for Christ be met with Gospel success. Even if we are met with death, we can enjoy prosperity! Did the martyrs in Oxford, Latimer and Ridley, die in defeat or in success? What was their dying prayer? "Play the man, Master Ridley; we shall this day light such a candle, by God's grace, in England, as I trust shall never be put out!" I would say this was SUCCESS. Let's be the real prosperity preachers and Christians and ask God for success.
"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." Joshua 1:8.
