Southern Baptists Down to Lowest in 30 Years
The nation’s biggest Protestant denomination isn’t as big as it used to be, according to its Annual Church Profile (ACP), released today. Membership fell to 14.8 million in 2018—its first time below 15 million since 1989 and the lowest it’s been since 1987.

“Facts are our friends, even when the facts themselves are unfriendly,” said new Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary President Adam Greenway. “Heartbreaking to see these ACP declines. We must do better as Southern Baptists. God help us.” ...

From what I understand from my distant position here in Britain, is that there are some folks in the leadership of the Southern Baptists and of some of their theological colleges who are fully committed to the “social justice” and “race awareness” agenda, and who are very weak and wobbly on LGBT and feminist issues.

I also understand that this problem of baptising pre-puberty children when they walk forward after an altar call without proper examination or doctrinal instruction, and while they are being brainwashed in the state owned public schools (temples of evolution, transgenderism, LGBT rights, abortion and libertarianism., as well as environmentalism earth worship), is a major problem in the SBC. They may not have infant baptism as such, but they are not far off that!! I also understand Freemasonry for pastors, deacons and other church officers is a huge problem and has been repeatedly swept under the carpet. No wonder the SBC is in a mess.

I think Saudi Arabia is a place where only the Invisible Church exists.
In fact, I think they are having an Invisible Church Rally this weekend!

And thanks, "WP" for bringing back memories of those pastel-colored leisure suits!
What we need is History of the US Church since WW2, to show all the fads we have been taken through.

The decline began during the 1970’s, with Brady bunch Christian musicals and pastel leisure suit young gun pastors who wouldn’t slam the pulpit to much less kill a horse fly than speak of sin. No fault divorce was a big tidal wave that hit the SBC and it’s affects are a perpetual typhoon. No fault divorce kills the family, throws women and children into poverty and makes bad men a bad dog without a leach. The southern baptist church is declining because preteen baptized Christianity aren’t discipled as there is No one home to teach them how to grow in Christ.
I pray grandparents become convicted, converted and become evangelists to their own walking dead children and grandchildren .

Is this a surprise in these modern apostate times???
All denominations are on the decline today.
God's choice not ours.
Don't worry it's only the visible church which declines.
Very well said Adriel! Those that truly belong to Christ are often not known and therefore not part of any statistic.

No denomination is indispensable to the work of God’s Kingdom. Yet we think there is still time for the SBC to pull itself back from the precipice of inevitable decline. The gripping message of the gospel of Jesus is, ultimately, the main reason people will join, serve and stay in Christian churches. Baptists became America’s Protestant juggernaut because they stayed focused on preserving and proclaiming that message. No watered-down or politicized version of the gospel will do.

Numbers game is why we have President Donald Trump. He was smarter than the Democrat Socialist Party who thought if they won big in New York State, California, and Illinois, then they could win the Presidency. Sorry! There is such a thing as the Electoral College.
No, this church membership issue is a tricky one, but it does look like 'Things are Adding Up' to mean less and less people are attending church, hearing the gospel, singing those old fashioned hymns, giving their tithes to keep salaries paid for people to work in those buildings.
Why is this?
Is it the fault of Social Media, Internet? Do people have short attention spans because all day long, all night long, they are stimulated by their smartphones and laptops, getting answers at the drop of a button. Compare that to sitting all facing the same direction, listening to one guy go on and on about a topic you had no choice in the choosing, and then being told you have to give up ten percent of your salary before taxes to keep this building in good functioning order and to pay all the salaries, etc. That is not a very winning combination!

The numbers game is a tough game to play correctly.

Do you want influence or godliness? Is it quantity or quality of belief?
