Computer virus hits newspapers coast-to-coast

Even old-school printed newspapers aren't immune from the pitfalls of technology.

Tribune Publishing said Saturday night that malware affected its ability to print newspapers across its chain of outlets, including the Chicago Tribune, the New York Daily News, the Baltimore Sun and the Orlando Sentinel.

Many subscribers to the Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union-Tribune, which were previously owned by Tribune Publishing and still share some production technology with the company, stepped into a chilly sunny morning Saturday only to find empty doorsteps.

The computer malware was detected Friday and "impacted some back-office systems which are primarily used to publish and produce newspapers across our properties," said Marisa Kollias, Tribune communications vice president, in a statement. ...

JAG asked, “Do people still use newspapers these days?” Not much, JAG, and it’s costing me a fortune to line my parakeet cage with computers.

There is a difference between making life better and making it perfect. You car is far more useful to you than a horse or your feet would be in getting places but it still breaks down and needs repairs

This is the price we pay for Computerizing Everything: more opportunities for mass criminal mischief by sinners who would ruin your life or business.

And even without the crooks, software is often written by careless fools who know enough only to be dangerous. Quality software, like anything else, can't be developed without care and diligence. It's high time we think twice before assuming automation will always make life better.

Well, at least it is not as bad as it is in Venezuela, where the government controls the supply of the paper used to print newspapers. Some have closed already because they had editorial comments against the government.
But, in the US, the newspaper industry is dying out with few readers. A friend in a large metropolitan area with over 2 million people has only one major daily newspaper and its circulation is about 150,000.

I don't think that anyone can justify such an attack on a newspaper, Jim. One does have to wonder, though, why you would tie to president to such a malicious act? And one has to wonder why you would defend the obvious political hacking done by the major news media? Theirs is a return to all-out yellow journalism to forward the socialist cause through opinion as fact and misinformation.

Isaiah 59 is not a model for America and Western society to emulate. It is a warning to not follow that path.

I see that articles like the following would not have fans in either foreign or domestic circles

Interfering with their publication is understandable but not acceptable. (Deciphering the Patterns in Trump’s Falsehoods)
