'Terrifying': False ballistic missile threat sends Hawaii into panic
A false ballistic missile threat alert was sent to all Hawaii cell phones on Saturday morning, sending the state into a panic for more than 30 minutes until emergency officials confirmed the message was a mistake.

While city and military officials took to social media within 15 minutes to quell fears and say the message was sent in error, it took state emergency management — which sent out the message in the first place — nearly 40 minutes to send out a "false alarm" alert to cell phones using the same mechanism that distributed the emergency warning in the first place.

"It's totally unacceptable," said U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii. "There was anxiety across the state and it was terrifying. There was a lot of unnecessary pain and anxiety. It's important to have accountability at the state level and the emergency management level in terms of what exactly what went wrong." ...

It looks like people there were not quite ready to "Meet Their Maker," thus, the panic. I think lawyers may benefit from this because a lot of people will rush out to see them to get their wills written or updated.
Others will start thinking of moving to New Zealand, or Canada.
A lot is said about the dangers of nuclear weapons, but did you know the US 'tested' 65 of them over the Marshall Islands after WW2? The people are still there, though the US has to pay big for the testing.

“ 'Terrifying': False ballistic missile threat sends...”

Really? Does the scripture tell us that we should be terrified of these things? Nay.
The believer has the only warning for the world. Believe in the LORD.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but a sound mind 2Ti 1:7;
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage Heb 2:14, 15.
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Jhn 8:36
The believer has already passed from death unto life. Do you believe this? I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die Jhn 11:25, 26
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world Jhn 16:33

Net neutrality will prove the motive of many agendas.

Even so, LORD, come quickly!

Scarier False Alarms have occurred before, only we weren't told about them at the time. By God's grace, a Soviet Lt. Colonel kept his wits and headed off nuclear catastrophe:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Soviet_nuclear_false_alarm_incident

I'll say this for the Cold War: at least the Soviet Union was a relatively rational adversary.

To follow up from the comment made by Steve Doring from Tampa, FL, Iran and North Korea are actually allied with each other and helping each other with their nuclear technology.

The Iran deal cooked up by President Obama and his advisers, particularly the notorious Secretaries of State, Hilary Clinton, and then John Kerry, was a terrible disaster., which followed on with no requirement for Iran to actually sign it, and with chests of cash in US dollars going to Tehran Airport to secure the release of people being held in
Iran, a kind of illicit ransom!!

The UN, the EU countries, and shockingly even Britain, are still supporting this terrible deal, and even President Trump, has wavered on it for a little while, though I really hope that he will come to, defy the UN and EU, and cancel the whole wretched thing forthwith!!

I can't believe the narrative put forth that this was an accident at shift change! I really think that some military incident occurred in the Pacific and this story was agreed upon by the powers that be to prevent instability in Hawaii swing that a stable functioning Hawaii is critical for operations in the Pacific.

And guess who is coming up behind North Korean with development of nuclear missiles? Iran! And they are worse--their objective is to destroy us. At least North Korea is only threatening us with them, to show off their great power.

The island of Oahu hosts major US bases and warfare commanders for the Pacific region. The Japanese took advantage of the presence of the US Navy's Pacific Fleet's presence there, surprising the US by a Sunday morning sneak attack on Dec 7, 1941, which brought the US fully into WWII as a combatant with the Allies. Hawaiians probably feel that if Guam is a good and easy target, why not go for something better like Hawaii? And considering history, there is a precedent...

""There was anxiety across the state and it was terrifying. There was a lot of unnecessary pain and anxiety.""

Ok I have to ask the obvious question.

Who on planet earth would want to fire a missile at Hawaii???

David Wright, a physicist and missile expert at the Union of Concerned Scientists, calculated that on a normal trajectory, rather than a high lofted trajectory, the missile would have a range of 8,078 miles, enough to reach Washington, the rest of the US west coast, Europe or Australia.

Furthermore, the mobile night launch appeared aimed at testing new capabilities and demonstrating that Pyongyang would be able to strike back after any attempt at a preventative strike against the regime.

Chris GP, you are also now and range

yes it looks like someone needs to be fired in Hawaii, and also I just wonder how easy it is to send out such alerts accidentally - - apparently too easily?

☢How many of u recall Atomic Bomb shelter drills in school?
We'd file down to the shelter at the siren & wait a bit
Back then, ambitious shelter plans were excavated in a number of basements & backyards.

My wife's school had a duck & cover drill pretty often

Works for falling rocks, too

During the 2013 Chelyabinsk meteor explosion, a fourth-grade teacher in Chelyabinsk,
Yulia Karbysheva,
saved 44 children from potentially life-threatening ballistic window glass cuts by ordering them to hide under their desks when she saw the flash.
Despite not knowing the origin of the intense flash of light, she ordered her students to execute a duck and cover drill

Duck and Cover" is a first response countermeasure only, in much the same way that "Drop, Cover and Hold On" is during an earthquake, with the advice having served its purpose once the earthquake has passed, and possibly other dangers—like a tsunami or fallout—may be looming, which then require movement to high ground and radiation protection, respectively.

Fallout avoidance after blast is next step.

One almost wonders if Kim Jong Un had a North Korean agent living in Hawaii who was in a position of influence, who did this to get the people there into a panic.

A missile now fired from North Korea could easily get to Hawaii in a matter of minutes!! One can only pray that the half starved army of Kim Jong Un from North Korea would mess it up, and the missile would fail to fire, after which an angry Kim Jong Un would carry out rather a lot of executions!!

Seriously, it does show how bad the situation is, when part of the United States could be under such a threat. Many older British people can remember the horrific bombing of British towns by the German Nazi Air Force in the 2nd World
War, and how prepared we had to be.

We must indeed pray for the folks in Hawaii, Guam, Japan, South Korea and such places, that are under this terrible threat from North Korea, and we must also pray that indeed this arrogant regime will be dealt with by the Lord Jesus in His sovereign way and time.

Yes Chris, the whole thing is illogical. It would seem that whatever took place was intentional. My guess is an employee wanted his day of fame, but we will have to wait to find out the specifics.
Something like this is inexcusable and the fear it must have caused folks is something I can’t relate to. What about the old folks and those taking care of them. What did they do in those few minutes? What about those who had children in day care?

The whole thing truly is bizarre, but my guess is whatever really took place will come out. But, to say that it was accidental sounds really silly to me.

I also think we will see lots of law suits in the near future.

Early warning.
Rev8:8And the second angel sounded,
and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea:
and the third part of the sea became blood;
9And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea,
and had life,
died;
and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
10And the third angel sounded,
and there fell a great star from heaven,
burning as it were a lamp,
and it fell upon the third part of the rivers,
and upon the fountains of waters;
11And the name of the star is called Wormwood:
and the third part of the waters became wormwood;
and many men died of the waters,
because they were made bitter.
