Southern Baptists change their tone but not their substance on homosexuality?
The Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission wrapped up a conference in Nashville this week outlining the denomination’s posture toward cultural changes and challenges on issues of marriage and sexuality.

In a brief, 48-hour span, dozens of speakers led 1,300 attendees and 10,000 live-stream viewers through ethical, theological and pastoral considerations of evangelical teaching on sexual ethics.

And while Southern Baptists seem to be moving past same-sex marriage as a culture war issue, they’re not moving past their opposition to homosexuality. Among the various speakers, there were certainly mixed messages. ...

Should Our Lord Jesus have been kinder when he was calling the pharisees and sadducees liars, hypocrites and you are of your father, the devil. I'm sure these so called Christian leaders would say so. Just shows you who they really are. You don't dialogue with sin. Personally, I hate all the workers of iniquity. Psalm 5:5

How do we apply Matthew 18: 15-17 to this approach???
How about 1 Corinthians 5?

We are to love, however, love contains discipline. Does not God chasten those he loves? Do we not chasten our children out of love? And for what purpose? For teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. Love is concerned primarily for the salvation of soul, not warm and fuzzy feelings.

I am disappointed with what I have read so far about this conference. I fear that Southern Baptists are beginning to identify as "redneck theology" strong denunicatory speech concerning sodomy and sexual perversion-- the type of speech we find in Scripture-- not only in Leviticus, but from the lips of the apostle Paul, Jude and Peter, as well. Paul described homosexual lust as a "vile passion" and homosexual acts as acts "contrary to nature" that result from men exchanging the truth of God for a lie, the glory of God for an idols, and God handing them over to burning, unnatural passions as the "due penalty of their error." If upholding such truths makes me a 'redneck' in the eyes of some, then so be it.
It is not unloving toward homosexuals to speak in strong, denunciatory terms (as the Bible does) about the sinfulness of homosexual practices. It is biblical to affirm that there are some sins more shocking to mention than others, because they are usually done "in secret." "For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret." (Ephesians 5:12). Let us not be deceived into equating kindness toward people who are tempted to certain sins with "softness" in speaking about those sins. People must be loved, but sin must be denounced in the strongest terms.

am I missing something? why are they coaching those who are seeking to live pure lives before God? what are they doing except losing their very way of life to this communist rev? trying to depoliticize a communist rev does not actually depoliticize it.... if only the homosexuals knew how they were being used to dismantle western society followed by great tyranny.

how is it ethical to watch your nation force other nations to accept these abmonations against their own will in order to buy/sell/trade with us? when is the convention going to begin preparing their people for these difficult times? --- let the weak homosexual brethren take notice too, they may just be on the losing end of a spiritual battle for our lives and for our society. its not all just about "me and my feelings". that's just plain self centered.

One thing I'm in agreement with concerning these goings on; we as believers are commanded to be kind to all men, and we are to show love exhibiting compassion to all men.
But! When it comes to cultivating dialogue with people who claim to have been born-again and they still want to wear the LGBT jacket, I have a real problem with that, it's seems as if someone is still wearing their 'grave clothes' which perfectly fits the unredeemed not the 'new man'.
Has the bride of Christ lost sight of God's truth? It maybe very well for all of us to examine ourselves, keep our focus letting God's word and the Holy Spirit navigate our hearts not the warm fuzzies.

I'm not sure what "redneck theology" is supposed to mean. Does that mean not making the sinner feel uncomfortable about their wrong doing? Let's not be straight forward about what God says because it might make sodomites uncomfortable! Now I hear people saying we are worshiping scripture above Jesus if you quote scripture to point out homosexuality is a sin.
