According to statistics released by the Ohio Department of Health, 30,859 abortions were performed in Ohio during 2007 - the lowest total since Ohio began collecting abortion statistics in 1976. The 2007 figure was a 6.3% reduction from the 32,936 abortions performed in Ohio in 2006.
"Reaching a record low in reported abortions marks a milestone for pro-life efforts in Ohio," said Mike Gonidakis, Executive Director of Ohio Right to Life.
"This reduction in abortions could not have been possible without the tireless efforts of pro-life Ohioans and their support of pro-life legislation as well as providing direct assistance to women through pregnancy help centers," Gonidakis said.
"Although we are pleased by this historic reduction in abortions, there is much work left to do. The loss of over 30,000 innocent human lives remains a tragedy of incredible proportions," Gonidakis said....
