Abortion death of teen girl spurs call for investigation
In one of the state’s rare abortion-related deaths since the procedure was legalized 31 years ago, a 15-year-old Detroit girl died following a second-trimester abortion, and local pro-life activists are calling for a criminal investigation of the physician and the 24-year-old man they say got her pregnant.
“It’s a tragedy,” said Monica Migliorino Miller, director of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, which is holding a press conference today outside of Womancare, the Lathrup Village clinic where Tamiia Russell got the abortion. “We have two deaths here: her death and the death of her child. This is a serious issue. Everyone says we got to have legal abortion and make it safe. Well, how safe was it for her?”
