Psalm 123 - Refocusing - Part 5
FRIDAY, JANUARY 31, 2014
Posted by: Ridgeview Baptist Church | more..
As we have begun our ascent through the psalms of degrees we have seen the psalmist begin his spiritual climb to victory. First he truthfully acknowledged the sad plight he was in, and asked the Lord to help him. Secondly, he fixed his eyes in the right direction. Thirdly he joined God's people and started in the right direction toward the house of God.

As we come to Psalm 123 we see similarities to Psalm 121! He has to refocus. He has to lift up his eyes again! What's wrong? He has already lifted his eyes in Psalm 121. What is going on? It seems his eyes have failed to stay focused on their original object. Knowing human nature, I suspect the psalmist was looking right in Psalm 121, but by the time we reach Psalm 123 he has begun looking in a different direction! He realizes this and refocuses again! The fact of the matter is the Christian seeking spiritual victory has to refocus again and again! We still have an Adamic flesh to deal with, and it causes us to look in the wrong direction many times, and the solution for this is simply to do what the psalmist did, refocus.

In two of the four psalms we have discussed the psalmist deals with the eyes and the direction they are looking. I do not think this is coincidence! The direction of our eyes is of utmost importance if we are to experience spiritual victory. The Bible tells us in Lamentations 3.51 the eye affecteth the heart. The devil knows this and so get ready, he is going to try to get your focus off of the Lord, and on ungodliness. Therefore it is of the utmost importance that when we realize we have an eye problem, we immediately seek to correct it in order to protect our heart (in Proverbs 4.23 we are admonished to keep our heart with all diligence) and ensure spiritual victory. With the Lord's help we must refocus as many times as is necessary.

Dear saint refocus - refocus - refocus all the way to Heaven!

Until next time, may the Lord bless you.

As we come to Psalm 122 the psalmist has taken two steps up the staircase of spiritual victory, and be sure it is an uphill climb! In Psalm 120 he has honestly acknowledged his condition, and inability to help himself. Secondly, in Psalm 121 he...

The Psalms of Degree - Part 1
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2013
Posted by: Ridgeview Baptist Church | more..
I want to spend the next few weeks talking about Psalms 120 - 134. These fifteen Psalms are commonly referred to as the Songs of Degrees. This unusual sub-title above each of these Psalms is interpreted differently by the so-called scholars. The...

Be Ready
THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, 2013
Posted by: Ridgeview Baptist Church | more..
God's people are to be a "ready" people. So many times we fail the Lord because we are not ready or prepared as we should be. My son has a favorite quote that simply says, "opportunity favors the prepared". Although a secular quote I am convinced...
