REPORT ON SIBERIA TRIP AND UKRAINE CHILDREN
PERMANENT NOTICE
Posted by: Aberdeen Primitive Baptist Church | more..
Sept. 5, 2009

Dear fellow saints,
As you are aware, Elder Jeff Harris and I were blessed to visit the dear saints of God in Siberia August 11-21. We enjoyed ten days of great fellowship there, visiting several churches in the area. We were also blessed to assist in baptizing seven believers who desired to follow Christ in scriptural baptism. Four of them were pastors of local congregations. Please continue to pray for these dear saints. They love the Lord, believe the true Gospel of Jesus Christ and have a desire to be witnesses for Him among their countrymen. It is always hard to leave them knowing that it will be a year before we will be able to return and that they will be facing a very severe winter. Their life is hard, but they do not complain, they only ask for your prayers that they will be faithful to Christ.
On Aug.21, we left Irkutsk, Russia to fly to Kiev, Ukraine. Because our flight was late leaving, we missed our connection in Moscow. It was rather unnerving to be told there were no more flights available until the next morning and realizing that we needed to find a place to stay in a city where all the signs are in Russian. We prayed. I saw a sign and I recognized the word “Taxi”. I asked the lady at the window how we might get a taxi to a hotel; she shrugged her shoulders and made it clear she did not understand English. By the mercy of the Lord, a young man was standing there who did. With his help, we were able to find a very comfortable hotel at a very reasonable price and a taxi to get us there. Thank the Lord. The next day we returned to the Moscow airport and continued our trip to Kiev, Ukraine.
Bro. Alex had already informed me by email that his wife was suffering servere pain in her right leg and was in need of a medical exam in a clinic several kilometers from Chernigov. He was not sure if he would be able to meet us in Kiev or even in Chernigov. Since it was impossible for us to change our airplane tickets, except at a great expense, we prayed and decided to continue our trip to Chernigov.
Well, Bro. Alex was not able to meet us. However, since I had been in Ukraine in July, I knew my way around sufficiently to get us to our hotel in Chernigov, and McDonalds. I had also made contact with a Pentecostal pastor who had worked with me previously as an interpreter and he had assured me that he would be able to interpret for us on Sunday. Pastor Nicolia served us very well as a host and interpreter. I was able to take Bro. Jeff to the house we have purchased for Bro. Alex. He was amazed that we had been able to purchase the very fine house at such a good price.
While we were greatly disappointed because we did not get to visit with Bro. Alex and the children, we were able to visit with the church saints there in Chernigov. Bro. Jeff and I both spoke to the saints, with the help of our interpreter. Bro. Jeff was greatly blessed as he spoke on “The God of Election.” The saints so enjoyed the message, they insisted that Bro. Jeff must return again.
As I have said, we were unable to visit with Bro. Alex because he was away caring for his wife while she was being treated in a clinic in the town of Crimea, a long distance from Chernigov. In Ukraine, as it is in several of the Eastern Europe hospitals, they do not serve meals. So a patient’s family must carry food to them. This became Bro. Alex’s responsibility, in addition to caring for their three children.
As you may remember, two of the orphaned children had been taken by the state and put into an orphanage and two of the children were in a church camp nearby. The oldest, Dasha, was staying with her grandmother. So, on Aug.26, we left Ukraine, rejoicing in the time of fellowship with the saints in Chernigov, but very sad that we had been unable to visit with Bro. Alex and his family, or the five orphaned children.

Today, I have received this very happy news by email from Bro. Alex.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++.

Dear Bro. Herb,
Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus!
We have just safely returned to Chernigov. The treatment that Tonya received in the hospital in Crimea has done her much good. She has not yet fully recovered but she feels a lot better now. Please continue to pray for her full recovery.
Regretfully, the judge was not back at work in August. And because school here starts on September 1, Dasha, Angelina and Nazar were also placed in an orphanage. However, on September 3 the judge signed the document allowing us to adopt the children. That means that now we can have the children. But since the children are now in orphanages it will take some time and more red tape to get them out of there. But our lawyer said that in a month or two we will have them. Had the judge returned to work by August 25 we would have the children today. But now we’ll have to wait a bit more. Yet knowing that the adoption has been finalized, we are willing to do that.
Thank you for all your help and prayers on our behalf. Please remind Bro. Jeff that the message he preached made a great impression on our church people and that they keep asking me when he will come again. It grieves my heart that we couldn’t meet in August. But we all will be really looking forward to seeing you next spring.
God bless,
Alex
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

While we all would like to hear that the children were with Bro. Alex, the good news is that his wife is recovering from her illness, which was diagnosed as being a thyroid problem and she will have a little more time to recover.

The great news is that the adoption has been finalized! Hallelujah!! Please continue to pray for Sister Tonya’s complete recovery and the childrens safe return to Bro. Alex and his family.

God bless,
Bro. Herb
