Paul endeavored to correct the proud, partisan divisions in the Corinthian church by expressing that God had accomplished, by what the world deemed foolishness, what the world's wisdom had never accomplished (1:18-25). God revealed a saving wisdom and power that delivers believing sinners from the guilt and power of sin. Now, in verses 26-28, he addresses their foolish pride by reminding them of who they were when God called them. The contradiction of God's wisdom to man's is illustrated by the kind of people He has called to be His own.
