The word "adversity" in this verse means tribulation or trouble and also carries the undertone of a female rival. So adversity is our rival, it is opposed to us competing for the same goal. Adversity wants to cut our throat so we don't want to praise God, work for God, or fellowship with one another. How do we respond when adversity comes? Some respond by cussing but what does that solve? While others turn to the bottle or some sort of stimulate but the problem remains. We can't afford to just give in to adversity or respond the wrong way. Adversity is an exam to show us where we are in our walk, just how strong in the Lord we really are. So how should we respond? Make sure you got the right GOD. He is the one who is strong enough, wise enough, and caring enough to get the job done. But we must trust his judgment. Don't give up because it doesn't turn out how or when we think it should. And yes we can get hurt by our fellow Christians just like our family can hurt us, it is just another form of adversity. But God is the one to be relied upon so focus on Him and not expect others to do what He hasn't called them to do.
