Last week we finished looking at the letter of 1 Timothy. In this letter Paul ended with a heart’s cry to Timothy to guard what had been committed to his trust. He was to know it, to look carefully after it, to guard it from any mishap or lack of understanding. These were things that were so important that if they were missed, forgotten, or distorted, the whole of Salvation was distorted. He had been left in Ephesus to guard the life of the church and to establish it with proper leaders and duties for the different people. He was told to give himself wholly to this work that it might be evident to all. We read through a book like this and we think “good for Paul, way to tell Timothy,” but do we realize that this is for us as well? We have the same issues in our day. One of the most common refrains in scripture is to be on guard and to watch over our lives because many deceivers are coming and have come. Yet do we know the truth enough to be able to tell the difference between the true and the false? Join us as we look at 2 John and the doctrine of Christ.
