The early church had a clear vision of God—Jesus Christ, God Incarnate. They had a clear Gospel message—Christ and Him Crucified for the glory of God and the pardon of sinners. They had a clear call to repentance—Let the wicked forsake His ways and return to the LORD. Sin is the problem of our day. We do not want to call sin, sin. We want to sugar coat, coddle, and pretend that we don’t see things. We are afraid of upsetting folks and hurting their feelings. Today, I desire for Bethlehem Missionary Baptist church to get back to her roots. Let’s go back to the launch of the church in Acts 2, when a man in the church took a stand in the midst of his culture and proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His message was Countercultural, Christ-exalting, and Convicting. As a result of the message, people pleaded, What do we need to do? He told them to repent. This is small word with a powerful meaning. It is a word that is disappearing in churches all around us who are allowing sin to creep into the church without any resistance. Let’s turn to Acts 2:14-41 and listen to this message by the Apostle Peter.
