the Lord Jesus Christ gave His church two ordinances to be carried on in the life of the church. The first is baptism. Baptism represents the message of the gospel, requires the right candidate, the right mode, the right authority, reveals a public devotion to Christ and the church. Once a person is saved, he or she is united with Christ and is commanded to unite with the church. A candidate for church membership is baptized and becomes part of the local fellowship. This is a wondrous occasion and provides a beautiful picture of one being baptized into the death of Christ and raised to walk in the power of the resurrection. The outward symbol reveals and inward reality. The second ordinance of the Lord is referred to as the Lord’s Supper. This is what we will be discussing today from 1 Corinthians 11:23-26.
