The incident of Jesus calming the storm on the sea is a mighty demonstration of His power over everything.
It is easy for us to forget that, though He is a man, with a human body, with its limitations (though without sin), our Lord Jesus is also God of very God. Therefore, He has all power, and specifically, He has all the power to save and keep safe those who call upon and trust Him.
The disciples were always forgetting His mightly power, no doubt because they were so used to seeing Him in flesh and blood. He looked just like them.
Not only so, Jesus bore in His body the weaknesses of human flesh. He grew tired, he grew weak, he grew hungry, he grew sorrowful at times.
So when the disciples were confronted by the storm on the sea and Jesus slept soundly, they fell into the trap of thinking that, in His sleep, He was weak and unaware of their troubles.
But Jesus showed His mighty power by calming the wind and the sea with but a word of rebuke!
The message was: in this Man, the Lord Jesus, resides all the mighty power of God the Creator.
How amazing that the Son should condescend to become like unto His brethren whom He would redeem! That the Lord of Glory should take on such an impediment as our humanity, to be made a little lower than the angels!
All done that He might reveal to us the Father and His love, and that He might have a human body to offer up as a substitute for His people. For our sin had to be judged in human flesh, and so Christ was judged for us by God on the cross.
How amazing that the One we can approach, Who is meek and lowly of heart, has such mighty power toward us!
