Those false teachers were to be to them, "Anathema", accursed, because what they were preaching was not the gospel and could not save. The gospel of grace he had preached and they had received had not changed, and Paul makes it clear that his preaching was not merely to please men, but to persuade them of the truth, which is pleasing to God.
