Though the law is holy, righteous and good, in its entirety and in each of its individual parts and combination of parts, it can’t make you holy, righteous or good or impart its holiness, righteousness or goodness to you. Though it is perfect consisting of holiness, righteousness and goodness it makes nothing else perfect. All it can do is curse, condemn and judge all that is less than holy, righteous and good, all who are less than perfect. All the law can do is make you sin. All it can do for imperfect man is reveal how imperfect he is, how incapable he is of keeping any part of the law and how impossible it is for him to be acceptable to God on the basis of his good works.
Hebrews 7:19 “for the law makes nothing perfect”
The first part of the story is what the law could not do (though it is holy and the commandment is holy, righteous and good; the 3 essential elements of perfection). Though the law is perfect and reveals God’s perfection it can not make anything or anyone else perfect. The rest of the story is what God did about it.
Romans 8:3-4 3 for what the law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh God did: sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us.
