Gift of Cancer? Is that a misprint? No, cancer is a gift. It is a gift in six ways that are outlined in this sermon. In Psalm 39:4-5, David prayed, "Lord make me to know how transient I am." Why did he have to pray this? Because, like all of us, David was a practical atheist when it came to death. He knew intellectually that he would die, but practically he couldn't bring himself to believe it. We need to know that we are dying. We need to believe it. We need to believe that our days are short. Cancer, along with all terminal diseases, tells us with a megaphone that our days are numbered. This helps us prepare for the inevitable result common to all mankind.
