Why was the temple so important? Why was it so important that the Lord sent his prophets, Haggai and Zechariah, to admonish the people to rebuild? In this lesson, we answer that question.
We conduct a brief survey of Biblical worship: the altars of the patriarchs, Moses's Tent of Meeting, the Tabernacle and Solomon's Temple.
But what was the purpose of the temple?
o The place where God dwelt with men o The law of God was taught and preached o Sacrifices for sin were offered o It was an integral part of keeping the sabbath o A public place for remembrance of the works of God in creation and the exodus – a reminder of God's deliverance/salvation.
But it was more than that. The temple foreshadowed the work of Christ: Christ is the temple; the church is his temple, and we are the temple of God.
