Yet did they refuse to follow the words of the Lord and many great hardship befell the city and the people. The declaration of doom given by Jeremiah was not heeded and such is the desperate case of unbelief and rebellion against God. Though many mercies were offered by God, refusal brought the chastening hand of God and judgment for their sins of idolatry.
