In connection with saving grace instructing us (Titus 2:12) "to deny...worldly desires," the consideration of I John 2:15-17 is concluded. Examined is "the boastful pride of life," that is, the showing off of those external things (possessions, status, achievements, privileges, appearance, etc), that the worldly mind thinks bring security and superiority relative to others. As with "the lust of the flesh" and the "lust of the eyes," this kind of pride "is not from the Father but is from the world." The Father has not purposed that we live to gratify our sensual and material lusts or project an imagined superiority over our fellow mortals.
