YHWH told Israel through Hosea and told Judah through Isaiah that Tiglath-pileser, the king of Assyria who had restructured and rebuilt Assyria after Jonah had warned them in 762 BC, cannot cure Israel or heal Israel's wound. Tiglath-Pileser would soon unleash an attack on Aramean (Syria) towns between 745-728 BC. Tiglath-pileser's soldiers carried away the Aramean gods captured after the battle and resettled the Aramean prisoners after the Assyrian campaign of 745 BC.
We are beginning Hosea 6 on Tuesday... ...but chapter 5 ended with YHWH warning Israel not to go to the "LION" Tiglath-Pileser, the king of Assyria, for help. YHWH was the LION Israel and Judah should fear...for their rebellion he would tear them and then simply go away...until the time of restoration...this was 750 BC and Assyria had recovered from the days of Jonah (762 BC) and was moving on the Arameans...here's the biblical text with some notes... 1. Hosea 5 ended with verses 13-15 saying: "When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to the great king. But he is not able to cure you or heal your wound. For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, even I, will tear and go away; I will carry off, and no one shall rescue. I will return again to my place, until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face, and in their distress earnestly seek me." a.
