Haggai: Building for God IHG Church Camp Jan 2014 Talk 3
The people in Haggai’s day had started building the Temple at Jerusalem but sadly they stopped building for 16 long years.
They stopped building the Temple at first because of opposition and secondly they stopped building because they lost their focus.
God brings Haggai onto the scene and he stirs the people up by his preaching to get on with the work of God.
The people of God became involved in building their own houses instead of building God’s House. The people of God were wrong.
They should have never stopped the building work for God. They were inconsistent…Here they are in Haggai’s day involved in building work now but not for God but for themselves.
It seems as though the people of God were putting all their efforts into building expensive houses for themselves rather than spending time on building up the Lord’s House.
Panelled houses were the type of houses that kings built for themselves in that day.
Instead of putting God first they put themselves first.
The bible teaches that we are to love God supremely above all else and we are to put Him first in every area of our lives.
Now I need to say that God does not desire to dwell in a building today.
In the Old Testament God had a building for His people.
Today God has a People for His building.
Today God desires to REFLECT HIS GLORY through His people.
If your concerned for His glory then you’ve got to be concerned for building a life that honours God...
You also must be concerned for building His Church.
Without putting God first in their lives much of what they did came to nothing.
