"Christ executeth the office of a king, in subduing us to himself, in ruling and defending us, and in restraining and conquering all his and our enemies." This Kingship is the Mediatorial Kingship of Christ. His Kingdom is a universal and spiritual kingdom. As King he applies that redemption he has wrought as Priest and declared as Prophet. Therefore he is called Prince of Peace. 1 Christ executing his Kingship over the elect. They are given to him; they had been his enemies; He conquered them; He sends his ambassadors to preach salvation to effect the conversion of the elect; the elect obey him as their Lord and ruler. 2 Christ executing his Kingship for the elect. He has wrought peace for them inwardly in their hearts and minds, and outwardly he acts in the world in their defense, "restraining and conquering all his and our enemies." Application: 1 The experimental evidence of Christ's Kingship over us - chastisement for sin. 2 He blesses and rewards the obedience of his subjects. 3 The great misery of those outside this Kingdom. 4 To whom are you yielding obedience today? 5 Our past and present liberties we owe to Christ our King. 6 Christ's Kingship our comfort. 7 Our expectation concerning the future of Christ's universal Kingship.
