The primary incentive for evangelism and missions in the Christian church, especially in the Reformed tradition is the Holy Spirit, the indwelling Holy One of God.This sermon is an application of the assertions of Isaiah 46:9-10 and Daniel 4:34 concerning the sovereignty of God to the Christ commission of disciplemaking. The Holy Spirit's yearning for the glory of Christ Jesus in his redemptive work is the incentive for Christian missions. The Spirit yearns for Christ to be satisfied with the results of his suffering in the redemption of his chosen. The Spirit endues the disciple for witness to Jesus Christ- he clothes us to be outward looking and upward leaning that the harvest might be brought in. The Spirit impells the laborers into his harvest. This is demonstrated in the Acts chronicles. The Spirit yearns, endues and impells the missionary, evangelist, witness and he works in the heart of the elect through the Word preached to produce repentance and faith. He compells sinners to come to Christ. We obey Christ's commands because it brings him pleasure. The Spirit and the Lord Jesus are accomplishing all the Father's pleasure and they have given to us the ministry (the Word)of reconcilation.
