MATTHEW 4 Summary: We read that Jesus is led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness and fasts for forty days. He is then tempted by the devil in various ways. But Christ overcomes the devil by using the Word of God (1-11). He stays at Capernaum and fulfils a prophecy of Isaiah by preaching in Galilee (12-17). Later he calls Peter, Andrew, James, and John to become his first disciples by following Him (18-22). He teaches in the synagogues and heals those with diseases. And so many people start following him as His fame spreads in the country. (23-25)
Devotional: (1) What is temptation? (2) Why was Jesus tempted, and how did He respond to it? (3) Who was the first man who fell into temptation of the devil? Why is Jesus better than him? (4) What does it mean to be a disciple? Are you a disciple of Christ? (5) In what ways Jesus is saying to you, "Follow me"? (6) What spiritual lesson is there in Jesus healing every kind of illness?
