The country is all astir about the Turpin family in California. By all accounts, they were very bad parents, depriving their 13 children of basic necessities.
This ought to call to mind God our Father's perfect love for His adopted sons! Christ promised that the Father would provide good gifts to His children, better than any fallen parent ever could.
God has all the power to give good gifts. Some parents are too poor or too weak to provide the best for their children, but not so our God.
God has all the wisdom to provide good gifts to us. Parents' intentions and motives are not always the best, and they cannot know for certain the future consequences of their gifts to their children, but not so our God. He has all knowledge and wisdom, and He never makes a mistake in His provision for us.
God our Father has already proven His willingness to give us good gifts, for He spared not His Own Son, but delivered Him up as our sacrifice, as our ransom from our sin.
God already gave us the best gift! If He never gave us another gift for eternity, we would rejoice forever in the gift of His Son as our Savior.
He gave us the most beloved One. He gave us the most valued One, His dear dying Lamb!
When Jesus assured us that the Father knew how to give us good gifts, He Himself knew what gift God was preparing to give to us. Jesus knew the awful cost of God's good gift to us.
All other good gifts flow from, and are subsumed in, that greatest gift of the Lord Jesus.
But there is a precious gift that God has not given to us, for it required a perfectly obedient, and infinitely loving Son to receive and keep it.
