Confronted with Christ's true identity, men can either accept it as glorious or reject it as preposterous: it is the challenge of God's Messiah.
As he hangs upon the cross of Calvary, we observe God's promised Prophet mocked, God's promised Priest despised, God's promised King scorned, and God's promised Redeemer rejected, and all in the very act of demonstrating and validating the truth of all his claims concerning himself.
The challenge remains for each one of us: here is God's true Messiah. Will we accept him as glorious, or reject him as preposterous.
(The Promise (by Alec Taylor, published by the Banner of Truth) is a book guiding readers through thirty-one daily Scripture readings introducing them to the gospel. We used the texts Pastor Taylor selected to provide the framework for a brief series of sermons tracing something of the person and work of Christ from Genesis to Revelation. The last twelve sermons of this series (the bulk of the messages on the New Testament) were digitally recorded, and are available here on SermonAudio. This is number 23 in the series.)
