This final sermon on the Fruit of the Spirit is on the aspect of out Marching Orders as Christians - an army in the field may await engagement... The Orders carry them to the battle front and determine their place in combat. Likewise we have these orders from the Savior to join the battle in our lives, and it is upon the principles outlined in the book we can be victorious.
In the final analysis, the work set before us is Christian Sanctification. If we have come to God by faith in Christ, seeking to be reconciled by his blood, and if we have rejected our own ability to achieve that position by our power or works being justified freely through the grace of God in Christ we have peace with God, This has been accomplished for us, and given us freely, Yet there is a work that remains for us to engage in our lives, A work set before us in clarity employing imagery of Christ s death and resurrection: w/ Vs24: They that are Christ s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. This is the sentence of death upon the sin nature and it s outworkings in mans life. Where flesh stands for the natural man and the sinful inclinations he has by nature.
Vs19 began a discussion of the works of the flesh which are to be rejected; w/ Vs25: They that are Christ s and live in the Spirit of God must also walk by that same Spirit.
In the verses we have been looking at over the past several weeks this is evident. Each one is said to be a fruit of the Spirit in us. Walking in the Spirit brings new and godly attributes to bear in our lives.
