Spiritual leadership requires a person to be spiritual to lead another person spiritually. Good, bad, or ugly everyone is leading someone to somewhere. However, that somewhere is not always a spiritual place. The word spiritual is defined as being a Spirit-filled person fully yielded to the indwelling Spirit of God. Spirituality is not mere pietism nor mere moralism. Spirituality is not being self-righteous. Spirituality is not Spiritism or some form of Mysticism. Spirituality is what the Spirit of God produces through the life of the fully yielded believer.
Spirituality is supernaturally produced and is an act of creation within the life of the one the Spirit controls and moves according to the will of God revealed through the Word of God. Therefore, the spiritual person will never act contrary to God's Word. Living contrary to "sound doctrine" is a contradiction against spirituality and a manifestation of its opposite- CARNALITY. Therefore, the primary goal of spiritual leadership is to lead people to live according to "sound doctrine." Spiritual leadership begins with being Spirit-filled and then teaching others "sound doctrine." This is the primary purpose in parenting or any form of leadership within a local church ministry.
