“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1
Without a doubt, David was one of the greatest figures of the Old Testament. He was a man’s man, a successful warrior, a man whom men loved to follow. But, even David needed a shepherd. Even David recognized his own weakness and his dependence upon One who was far greater than himself.
It takes humility to recognize that you need a Shepherd. Sheep aren’t the most impressive creatures. Brothers and Sisters, you and I need a Shepherd! We need food for our souls. Rather than having all the answers, we need the direction and wisdom of God’s Word and providence. And we need protection from the enemies of our souls.
Thank God that He has taken it upon Himself to be our Shepherd! May we follow David’s example and freely admit that we need a Shepherd and walk ever close to Him.
