“Now also when I am old and gray-headed, O God, forsake me not; until I have showed thy strength to this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come. ” Psalm 71:18 The God that loves His people when they are young doesn’t quit loving them when they grow old! David prayed to the same One in his old age as he did in his youth. As his old body began to experience old age, David continued to trust in and look to God for his strength. He looked to the One who had delivered him from the lion, bear and giant, to help him face the last phase of his pilgrimage. Old saint, you have the same God David had! He will not forsake you just because you have gotten old.
David wasn’t just content to quietly melt away into old age. He still wanted to be useful in God’s service. He wanted to speak of God and live in such a way that the younger generations would be blessed. Though he had an old body, he still had a vibrant, passionate heart to see the kingdom of God on earth prosper. Old saint, you are not useless! You can still be a great help and value to God’s kingdom. Your prayers, your example, your words, your actions still have a great impact. We need you; keep being faithful!
