I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God? Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people. Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.Psalm 77:11-15
PASTOR'S NOTE Pastor Don Fortner is scheduled to preach for the Kingsport Sovereign Grace Ministry in Kingsport, Tn. Sept. 18 thru 20. Service begins at 7:00 p.m. each evening and at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Partakers of Christ As Eve derived her life from Adam (Genesis 2:18-25), so we derive our life from Christ. As Eve was made partaker of Adam's nature, so we are made partakers of Christ's nature. As Eve's life was but an extension of Adam's life, so our life is but an extension of Christ's life. He is eternal life; and we have eternal life by the gift of God. That eternal life is "Christ in you" (Colossians 1:27). We are partakers his life. Our spiritual life proceeds from and is sustained by Christ. It is the source of our present spiritual life, and of our eternal life in glory with Christ. Let us never diminish one aspect of our Savior's work to make another appear more glorious. All that Christ is made to us and all that he does for us is vital. We cannot be saved without his work for us; and we cannot be saved without his work in us. Both are vital. Pastor Don Fortner
LOVE And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity (1Cor. 13:13).
I admire the blessed conclusion, with which the Apostle ends the Chapter, in drawing the different qualities of faith, hope, and charity, by the way of the more exalting the latter. Faith abideth with the believer, being a grace of the SPIRIT in the believer, and from his operation in the soul; it therefore abideth to the very last. Yea, regenerated souls, not only live believing, but die believing. The Covenant-love of GOD in CHRIST, with regenerated souls, are the same in life and death. These all (saith the HOLY GHOST by his servant the Apostle) died in faith, Hebrews 11:13. So hope, in like manner, rests in the full assurance, of all the unseen things engaged for, in the covenant. Hope realizeth them, substantiateth them, and considers them sure. Hence it is called, a blessed hope, Titus 2:13,
But, both faith and hope cease; when the soul enters Heaven; for their offices are for ever done away. For what a man seeth, he can no longer hope for, Romans 8:4. But charity, the love which is a branch of the love of GOD in CHRIST, flowing from his heart into ours, remains for ever; and therefore, in this sense, is greater than both. Precious JESUS! oh! for a portion of that love, that charity, which is the LORD'S gift, and not man's creating; and which, as it comes from GOD, so doth it lead to GOD, and will find room for exercise, for ever. Robert Hawker
BELIEVERS HAVE KEPT THE LAW I love the Ten Commandments - God's holy law. And I do not try to keep them. I have kept them perfectly! When the Lord Jesus Christ obeyed God's holy law perfectly - I did too! Trying to keep them always comes up short, and in reality stirs up the passions of sin (Rom.7:7-8). No, I do not try to keep them. I have kept them! In the Person of my representative, I have kept them! "Do we make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law" (Rom 3:31). Pastor Todd Nibert
The Strongest Man Mark 3:27 "No man can enter into a strong man's house...." Our house (heart) by birth, nature and practice is spoiled by Satan at his will; controlled by our sinfulness at its core and is without hope of any internal rescue by the works of this flesh or power of the will. We are, for lack of a better phrase, internally bound by our vile and corrupt nature! We must have some one who is stronger than the law of sin which binds us, stronger than the person of Satan which holds us captive at his will and stronger than the nature of depravity! Bless the Lord oh my soul....God's strongest Man comes into the heart and conquers them all! Spoils them, over-rules them, is victorious upon them and nothing can ever change the attack and reign of grace upon one of His elect sheep. 'Spoiled,' I like that and most of all, because of that I adore Him who did so because He loved me from the foundation of the world.
Oh, how I long to be rid of this flesh and one day sit and worship Him un-hindered and wonder at the workings of this 'strongest of Men'. Pastor Drew Dietz
TWO RELIGIONS There are really only two religions in the world. One of Cain and the other of Abel. One of Ishmael and the other of Isaac. One of Esau and the other of Jacob. One of law and the other of promise. One of Mount Sinai and the other of Mount Calvary. One condemns, the other finds no fault. One leads to bondage, the other to freedom. One tendeth to death, the other to life. One of weakness, the other of power. One of merit, the other of mercy. One of the weakness of the letter, the other of the power of the SPIRIT. Copied
