Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Heb. 12:11-13
Next Sunday, Aug. 02, we plan to observe the Lord’s Table and enjoy dinner together in our fellowship hall.
WE ARE WHAT WE ARE
We are not desirous of honor, esteem and applause from men, for we are what we are by the grace of God. God can take away what we have as easily as He gave it. We do not despise and provoke one another with our piety; nor do we want to appear wiser, richer in grace, nor more gifted than others; for we are less than the least of the saints. Nor do we envy the gifts, abilities, or grace of another. God will enlighten us, equip us, and bless us as He sees fit to use us.
Pastor Henry T. Mahan
“And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us”(Romans 5:3-5).
We would all like to have more patience. But remember, it only comes through trials, “Tribulation worketh patience” (Romans 5:3). It means “to abide under.” It is the fruit of faith, really believing that God is in control, therefore we are patient. We are to run the race set before us with patience (Hebrews 12:2). To walk worthy of God is to walk with patience (Colossians 1:11). It was only the good ground hearer that brought forth fruit with patience (Luke 8:15). It is patience that perfects Christian character. “But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing” (James 1:4).
Understanding the Scriptures brings patience. “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” God is called “the God of patience” (Romans 15:5), and we read of “the Kingdom of patience of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Revelation 1:9). Patience is our response to this promise, “But there shall not a hair of your head perish. In your patience possess ye your souls” (Luke 21:18-19).
I dare say all of us feel we are severely lacking in the grace of patience. But be encouraged. According to Colossians 1:11, we are “strengthened with all might according to His glorious power unto all patience.” “We have need of patience” (Hebrews 10:36), and we are to pursue it (I Timothy 6:11). When we are not patient, we are practicing unbelief. Lord, by your grace, make us patient.

It is the purpose of God to increasingly work in His saints here below two things: sinful self to abhor, and Christ the Redeemer to adore. Pastor Maurice Montgomery
WHAT THINK YE OF CHRIST? (Matt. 22:42)
The religious and self-righteous Pharisees surrounded the Lord on this occasion with malice in their heart to destroy Him. We read in Matt. 22:15 that “they took counsel how they might entangle Him in His talk.” The religious came at Him with many needless and unnecessary questions about religion and politics (Matt. 22:17), about future events (Matt. 22:25-28) and about the law of God (Matt. 22:36). The Lord Jesus Christ put them all to silence with this one heart searching and all important question, "What think ye of Christ?" I trust that everyone of us will seriously ponder this question and ask our sovereign Lord to give us honest and scriptural thoughts of Him. So then, what do you really think of the Lord Jesus Christ? Consider these things about Him:
1). What do you think of the Lord Jesus Christ in His blessed person? Can you say with Thomas that He is my Lord and my God (John 20:28). The believer trusts His soul salvation to the very one Who is God Almighty manifested in the flesh (2 Tim. 3:16). Our Lord had to become one with us in order to identify with our problem and provide the remedy (Heb. 2:14-17).
2). What do you think of the Lord Jesus Christ in His priestly work? Our Lord Jesus Christ was anointed and appointed as the only Mediator (1 Tim. 2:5) and High Priest (Heb. 4:14) for all those that believe on Him. As the believers representative before God, He brought sufficient and eternal sacrifice unto God to make atonement for the sin of His people (Heb. 9:12). This was not an attempt to put away sin, His precious blood actually put away all the sin of His people and secured their salvation (Matt. 1:21).
3). What do you think of the grace of Lord Jesus Christ? While Paul was undergoing trials and burdens he was given this precious promise from the Lord that His grace was sufficient for us (2 Cor. 12:9). His grace is sufficient to save and to justify (Rom. 3:24). His grace is sufficient to sustain and protect us during difficult times (Acts 4:33). His grace is sufficient to keep us from being lifted up with pride (Rom. 12:3). His grace is sufficient to call us from spiritual death to eternal life (1 Peter 5:10). His grace in and through Jesus Christ will meet all our need (Acts 15:11; Phil. 4:19).
4). What do you think of the glory Lord Jesus Christ? God has so ordained the salvation of sinners that the Lord Jesus Christ should properly receive all the glory for so great salvation (1Cor. 1:30-31). The believer truly loves the glory of His Lord. We love to glory in His mercy to the undeserving (Titus 3:5). We love to glory in His forgiveness to the guilty (Rom. 5:6; Eph. 2:4-6).
